— Attending the Launch of the First Global Chinese Children’s Storytelling Competition
In addition to our legal services, we are always mindful of the question: what kind of cultural soil should a healthy and diversified community embrace?
On 6 June 2025, Australia’s Sunfield Chambers Solicitors & Associates was invited to attend the “Launch of Gegelong Story Pocket Platform and the First Global Chinese Children’s Storytelling Competition” hosted by the Australian International Culture Industries Association (AICIA). As the legal advisor of the Global Chinese Children’s Storytelling Competition, our law firm was represented by Mr. Gang Sun, the principal lawyer, who attended the event and received the honorary certificate issued by the organizer, witnessing the official launch of this Chinese children’s cultural project.
This is not only a content release of the Children’s Chinese Storytelling Competition, but also a transnational program dedicated to language heritage and cultural identity. The event gathered Chinese and Australian education experts, cultural scholars and professionals in various fields to carry out in-depth exchanges centring on “language + story + growth”. For Sunfield Chambers Solicitors & Associates, participating in such a cultural program is an extended response to our longstanding interest in the cultural development of the Chinese community and the space for the next generation to grow.
One of the highlights of the conference was the official launch of the first Global Chinese Children’s Storytelling Competition. The contest is open to Chinese-speaking children aged 3 to 12, with a special non-native language category for 13- to 18-year-olds, who are encouraged to tell stories in Chinese about themselves or real-life stories around them.
The theme of the competition is “Integration and Communication, Understanding and Respect, Natural Harmony and Dreaming for the Future”, and the organizer, the Australian International Cultural Industries Association (AICIA), expects to attract more than 200,000 Chinese-speaking children to participate in the competition. The competition has a dual track for “native speakers” and “non-native speakers”, aiming to create a space for children from different language backgrounds to express themselves equally, openly and confidently.
Mr. Zhiwei Yang, Chairman of the Association, said that the competition is not only a training of language expression, but also a practice of cultural communication and identity recognition. It will build a cultural bridge across borders for Chinese-speaking children around the world, allowing them to find themselves in stories and for the world to hear their understanding and voices on peace, nature and dreams.
In addition, the event also announced that the Chinese children’s culture and entertainment platform “Gegelong Story Pocket”, which took six years to build, was officially launched. The platform pioneered the SBL (Story-based Learning) teaching model, which integrates story learning and interactive expression through the four-dimensional interaction of “Listening, Speaking, Acting, and Creating” to provide Chinese-speaking children around the world with more immersive language learning experiences. Currently, the platform has over 10,000 pieces of original content, covering both traditional culture and modern original works, and is committed to providing Chinese children around the world with a learning experience that is both culturally rich and modern.
We are pleased to see that this is not only an innovation in educational tools, but also a public platform to help Chinese children around the world enhance their sense of cultural belonging and language confidence.
As a full-service Sydney-based law firm serving clients from diverse backgrounds, Sunfield Chambers Solicitors & Associates has always placed “cross-cultural understanding” at the heart of our services. We work with business clients as well as individuals and communities. We deal with legal issues as well as key issues in the growth of the community.
As the invited legal advisor for this global children’s storytelling competition, Sunfield Chambers Solicitors & Associates acted as the legal advisor throughout the preparation of the event, helping to make the program more structurally sound and sustainable in terms of rules. We hope that the stage is safe and fair, and at the same time inclusive enough for every child to feel free to speak and tell.
For us, this is a practice of empowering culture with professionalism and supporting education with law. We always believe that law not only serves the business community but also plays a solid and long-term role in the process of culture crossing and language transmission.
“Do you hope your child will still speak Chinese in the future?”
For many children growing up overseas, Chinese is not only a tool for communication, but also a link between identity and culture, and an important way to understand oneself and one’s family background.
The Global Chinese Storytelling Contest is not only a cultural event cantered on Chinese storytelling, but also an educational practice of identity and belonging:
- for children to build up their cultural confidence through expression;
- for the community to form a common linguistic identity and cultural connection through communication.
We support this competition because we have always emphasized the impact of language and culture on the development of the next generation, and we are willing to be a firm participant in cross-cultural co-construction. Practicing expression through storytelling and feeling identity through expression is a right and a space that every child deserves, and Sunfield Chambers Solicitors & Associates is ready to contribute to such a space.
Language is the root of culture. Storytelling is the most natural way to perpetuate culture.
Sunfield Chambers Solicitors & Associates will continue to pay attention to and support such cultural programs that contribute to the long-term development of the Chinese community. We are willing to take professionalism as our guarantee and warmth as our standpoint, guarding with all our heart every sincere voice of expression, and every story that transmits culture and identity.
